Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae and can lead to pneumonia, septicaemia (a kind of blood poisoning) and meningitis. At their worst, they can cause permanent brain damage, or even kill.

Medical Extras – Vaccination Terms
1. All vaccine prices are per dose, not per course unless otherwise stated.
2. Unless otherwise stated, we charge an initial appointment fee (£20 for a half-hour appointment with one of our specialist nurses; £77 for a 15 minute GP appointment). This fee does not apply to follow-up appointments needed in order to complete your vaccination course with us. So if, for example, you are coming to us for a course of hepatitis B vaccinations, £20 covers the cost of all three of the appointments and the vaccine costs are separate.
If you are a registered patient at Highcliffe Medical Centre please contact the surgery as you may be eligible to have the vaccination on the NHS or privately.
